Florida Health Insurance Regulations

Living in the state of Florida can be a dream come true. Where else can you stroll on the beach, hike along a lagoon and spend a night on the town, all in one day? But Florida life isn't all perfect; besides hurricanes, mosquito-borne disease and traditional worries to think about, Floridians also must contend with policies and procedures on how and when to get health insurance.

Protection for Florida's Citizens

Florida has many insurance regulations that have to be followed in order to guarantee everyone the fair chance to receive coverage. Among their regulations, Florida now requires that insurance adjusters have 24 hours of continued education every two years, so that they can maintain appropriate knowledge of the state's regulations in action.

Florida has more health insurance regulations than many other in the country. First is the guaranteed renewability clause, which states that any insurance policy already in effect has to be renewed no matter what the condition of the one being covered, as long as there was no fraud involved in receiving the policy.

Florida insurance companies can require that enrollees meet a pre-existing condition clause before offering coverage. Unfortunately, there is no limit to the exclusion period here, so someone who is ill or injured  at the time of enrollment isn't guaranteed a policy. However, most insurance companies will only exclude on the basis of two years. Many Florida insurance companies also offer temporary health coverage for those who are in-between jobs or need coverage only for a short period of time.
