If you're moving to Florida anytime soon, keep these tips in mind to make your move more successful:
- You will definitely want to leave all your sweaters, trench coats, and other winter apparel behind when you move. It is rare that you'll need anything more than a light jacket, and the first year of your stay in Florida you won't want to wear jeans. Take plenty of shorts, tank tops and swimming apparel!
- If you're going to live near a beach, invest in a plastic floor mat for your car and home. Sand can get in any crevice or bag, regardless of how carefully you scrape it off after a visit to the ocean.
- Find out where the nearest Bureau of Motor Vehicles is, so that you can switch your license plate and tags over to Florida. You have to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of getting a job, enrolling kids in school or registering to vote.
- Call your insurance carrier and tell them of your move to Florida. You will have to change your auto insurance, and you may have to modify your insurance policy to reflect your new Florida lifestyle.
