Recent Changes to Florida Policy

The state has also become more interested in the betterment of health insurance for Floridians. Governor Jeb Bush has recently tripled funds for minority health, which will add $3.6 million to state programs meant to improve the health of minorities. The money will be used in three main areas: HIV prevention, sickle cell anemia research and prevention, and refugee health. In addition, funds will be offered to prevent other health care issues revolving around cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and childhood illness.

With the new plan, lifetime maximum benefits would also be increased and prescription drug coverage added. In addition, Florida's high-risk pool could be re-opened. The high-risk pool was formed in order to offer coverage to even those whose medical condition or illness prevented them from being able to get health insurance any other way.

As lawmakers work hard to improve the health of Florida residents, and the economy continues to support such growth, those who have chosen the Sunshine state will continue to see the positive impact.
