In Florida, we are fortunate to have more options than ever when it comes to types of healthcare coverage. Don’t let the number of choices or the “alphabet soup” confuse you. By following the links below, you can easily learn which type of plan is best for you.
Once you know what type of coverage suits your needs, you may contact a provider on the Florida Health Plans Providers page to sign up for a plan offered in your area.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plans
HMOs usually offer the least expensive benefit package with little or no paperwork. They often cover preventive care, such as routine physicals.
Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO) Plans
These plans offer a greater freedom of choice of health care providers than HMOs do. They generally cost more than HMO plans but less than Fee-for-Service plans.
Point of Service (POS) Plans
POS Plans allow members to choose, with each appointment, whether to use the provider network (HMO style) or not.
Self Directed Health Plans (SDHP)
If you don’t go to the doctor often, these plans may be for you. A high deductible keeps your premium low. “Up-front cash” pays for your regular health care.
Health Savings Account (HSA) Plans
A high deductible keeps your monthly premiums low. Meanwhile, a tax-free and tax-deductible account allows you save to cover costs up to your deductible.
Fee-For-Service Plans
These offer the greatest freedom of choice in health care providers (i.e., hospitals, doctors and specialists). They have a higher premium and may require more paperwork than other plans.
Prescription Plans
To help you cope with rising prescription drug costs, many insurance companies now offer these plans.
